URGET UPDATE
Unfortunately, there is an error within the body of the letter sent to all tenants regarding the tenancy legislation changes coming into effect on the 1st of August 2026.
The letter states that, from 1 August 2026, every secure tenant will have the right to request permission to keep a pet or pets. This is not currently the case. Whilst it is correct that this right is expected to be introduced in the future, it will not come into force on 1 August 2026.
It is anticipated that the Scottish Government will issue further regulations and guidance in advance of the pet provisions being implemented. As a result, the commencement date for these provisions has not yet been confirmed and remains to be determined.
